take over

Hi,
Can I use 'take over' in a situation where I want to say to my client that the person (my colleague) who was helping him or her with a certain problem has a day off, so he (my colleague) asked me to deal with it. Can I then say :'I have taken it over from my colleague, so we'll look into it together and I'll try to help you.'
Thank you.
