Take one's lumps and hang fire

Hi

Could you please tell me if these idioms are common among native speakers?

Take one's lumps: to suffer punishment or bad luck when trying something:

If you play ice hockey you have to take your lumps; it's a rough sport.

Hang fire: delay or wait:

It's best to hang fire with our plan now. We hardly have any money.

Thanks,

Tom

Here in the UK I have never heard of this. M-W dictionary says it's American.

Mr. TomHang fire

This is a well-known expression in the UK. I wouldn't quite go so far as to say it is "common".

They are not familiar to all English speakers. They seem to be more common in certain regions than in others.
