Hi

Would you say that the underlined phrase is natural English?

It's best that we take on status quo until something more optimistic comes up.

(in this context: take on status quo = let things be as they are)

No. Something like "accept the status quo" would be OK.

The use of "optimistic" is questionable. Normally it is people that are optimistic, not events or circumstances.
