Take on stage name

Is this correctly written?

He took on the stage name Shawn Legen thinking he could get more attention/attraction and that people would have an easier time remembering his name because it is like John legend the singer.

Thanks

No. You take a name, not take it on. Omitting "that" the first time and including it the second time is not good. You kind of need to backshift at the end because it is smoother for the reader. Although it is probably a typo, it has to be mentioned that "Legend" takes a capital letter. You need a comma for apposition.
