Take note or take notice of sth, or neither?

I don't mean to literally observe or hear something and write down what I see or hear, but rather to become keenly aware of something. Is it to "take note" or "take notice"? or other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Honestly, in spoken english, you could do either. It is "take note", though. "Take notice" means exactly the same as just "notice".
