Take down an enemy

Aikido does not focus on punching or kicking. Rather, the beauty of the art is that it uses an attacker's energy against him. It involves throws and handgrips that can take down an enemy.

Hi,

Is it right to interpret the bolded parts in the above as "force" and "control?" If not, what do they mean? Thanks.

Top answer

energy as force is a reasonable paraphrase. Also, power, strength. take down is not control, though.
