Grammar

take care of = do?

Canadian researchers have made a startling assertion: parents take better care of pretty children than they "do" ugly ones."

I am missing "of" after "do". Can it be dropped like that?

Thanks

Yes, you can drop the "of." The "do" stands in for the entire phrasal verb "take care of."

You can also include it.
