Tag questions

Dear all,

Could you please tell me

1) what an affirmative tag question and a negative one are?

2) whether "tag question" is a "question tag"?

Thanks in advance.

So, is it wrong if saying that "He is a student, isn't he?" is an affirmative tag question?

You are correct; it is a negative tag.

Some states that "A tag question is a special construction in English. It is a statement followed by a mini-question. The whole sentence is a "tag question", and the mini-question at the end is called a "question tag"." (http://www.englishclub.com/grammar/verbs-questions-tag.htm).

I'll go with Wikipedia this time, but I don't think it is a great confusion.
