tag question

Could anyone help me with this question?
Your father told me you were going to work abroad, ______?
A. didn't you B. wouldn't you C. didn't he D. weren't you.
I opted "D. weren't you" because I have heard that the tag question relates to the last person mentioned. However, they key was C. didn't he.

Am I right and the key given wrong?
Many thanks in advance.
