I got these questions from the englishclub.com website. Check the answers. Help.

How would be sure that in No. 5, the contraction is "would" and not "had"? i think both sentences would make sense.

He had rather go home. -- it could mean that he decided or was pushed indirectly to go home (has the sense of involuntary nature).

He would rather go home. -- I think it probable means that he somewhat made his mind to go home (on his own will)

I haven't seen 'had rather' used in that context though.
