Synthesis and Transformation

I have a problem with this question. It says: Daniel did not go to the party yesterday. His brother did not go to the party yesterday. I know the answer except for a certain part. What I wrote was: Neither Daniel nor his brother went to the party_______. Do I put the day before or yesterday? Please explain to me when to use "yesterday" and "the day before/ the previous day"! Thank you!

Top answer

" Neither Daniel nor his brother went to the party yesterday . If today is Sunday, yesterday is/was Saturday. " He arrived on Sunday, but he was expected the day before.

  • " Neither Daniel nor his brother went to the party yesterday .
  • If today is Sunday, yesterday is/was Saturday.
  • " He arrived on Sunday, but he was expected the day before.
  • ") "Yesterday" is always the day prior to the one on which you're writing/speaking.
  • If you're using the historical present, then "today" moves around.

When you're simply combining the two statements, "yesterday" remains as "yesterday."

Neither Daniel nor his brother went to the party yesterday.

If today is Sunday, yesterday is/was Saturday.

If today is Tuesday, and I'm describing what happened this past weekend, I surely can't use "yesterday."

He arrived on Sunday, but he was expected the day
