Syntax

Hello everyone,

Is "width" used correctly in the following sentence?

To do squats, you should place your feet shoulder width apart.

Shouldn't it be "wide"?

Regards,

JA

Top answer

To do squats, you should place your feet shoulder-width apart. "Width" is fine, but "shoulder-width is a compound noun modifying "apart", so I would hyphenate it as shown.
