Syntax

Hello everybody,

I am not a native English speaker. I recently translated a sentence from Dutch into English as follows: "Naturally, she would from time to time think of things less pleasant." My translation was deemed inadequate by the people who had asked me for the translation because of the specific sequencing of the last three words. Could you please give me some guidance as to why this would be wrong or just "off"? Thank you.

It's not wrong, but it has a somewhat old fashioned, literary air to it. It would be more usual to phrase it as "less pleasant things".
