Excuse me GPY.

Could you please answer my question below if it's no trouble?

If I change the second part into present simple, will it be okay as follows?

It was said that they live here for 100 years.

Isn't it unusual as?

Regards,

JA

It was said that they live here for 100 years.

No, this is not possible. "They live here for 100 years" is itself not possible (unless "live" has a future sense, e.g. "if they live here for 100 years", which isn't the case in your sentence).
