syntax?

the sentence is: "Part of the research the team does is to determine whether similar products are already on the market"
I don't quite get the syntax in this sentence. For example, which is the subject of "is"? And what happens in the first half of it (part...does)?
How many main clauses and how many subordinate are there? Thank you!
