Why are verbs central for sentence structure? How many participants/arguments do the following verbs require. Include all the optional variations in your discussion.

put,like,write,run,load,promise,catch,descirbe

I have no idea how to do this i have been starring at it all day and still have no idea what to do so please help me and also describe why the answer is what it will be

It's essential that you differentiate between transitive and intransitive verbs. Transitive verbs take a direct object, intransitive verbs don't. All these verbs can be transitive or intransitive.

Put:

Trans.: I'll put the plates on the table.

Intrans: I'll put, you'll serve.

Like:

Trans.: I like you.

Intrans.: I like. (Where did you get those nice clothes?)

Write:

Trans.: I'll write you a letter.

Intrans.: I'll write often.

Run:

Trans.: I'll run the race tomorrow.

Intrans.: I'll run like the wind tomorrow.

Load:

Trans.: I'll the load the rifles.

Intrans.: I'll load, you fire.

Promise:

Trans.: I promise a favor to you in return for your help.

Intrans.: I promise and I keep my promises.

Catch:

Trans.: I'll catch the *****.

Intrans.: I'll catch, you throw.

Describe:

Trans.: I'll describe him to you.

Intrans.: I'll describe, you draw.
