Synoynms for 'look after'?

Hi teachers,

What about this one? Are the synonyms possible?

She had to look after his children.



Word class: phrasal verb. / Tense: Simple Present. Simple Past: looked after (R).

protect

b.

supervise

c.

both a and b


Option 'c' is the correct one.

supervise is certainly correct. protect may be stretching it a little. attend to (the needs of) and, especially, take care of are closer.

supervise is certainly correct. protect may be stretching it a little.

attend to (the needs of) and, especially, take care of are closer.

A synonym for looking after children in BE is minding them, and in AE watching them.

As CJ says, 'take care of' is the closest.

It is the first expression that most native speakers would think of as a synonym, and is extremely common.

You are doing your students a disservice if you do not teach them this.
