synonyms - to gain/to achieve

I am correcting a formal letter and I am having trouble with this sentence. Can you please help me?

"In 2009 and 2013, after I gained the CELTA and CELT-YL certificates, I was..."

SInce the verb "to gain" has been used many times throughout the text (in relation to certificates and degrees) I was wondering if "to achieve" could be a valid substitute.
1)Is it possible "to achieve a certificate"?
2) Is it fine "the CELTA and CELT-YL certificates" or should it be "the CELTA and CELT-YL 's certificates" as in "Master's degree"?

Thank you!

As it was for a formal letter I was wondering which verb could be more elegant/appropriate. Thank you for your comment though, they are always very informative!
