Based on the underlined word, are these good synonyms? 'Behind in time' and 'behind the actual time'.

It wouldn't sound idiomatic if you substituted the underlined words for the ones you suggested.

I don't want to substituded the underlined words for the given synonyms. I just want to know if they are good synomyms to explain the meaning to my students.

In this sense, the watch is slow when it shows a time that is earlier than the true time,

whereas it's fast when it shows a time that is later than the true time.
