I wonder what the verb "to stir" means here in this three sentences.

The woman was talking about a stranger she saw in the hotel. He was looking at her in a strange way. It seemed to her that he scowled. Without saying a word he walked past her and was looking at her all the time. After this the lady says" I was very stirred by him".

Then she tells her husband about him and says:" Just the sight of him stirred me deeply and I thought if he wanted me, I couldn`t have resisted." I barely slept that night and woke up the next morning very agitated."

I read the definition of " to stir" as it means " to excite strong felling in" and not a particular feeling I decided that a reader should choose a right synonym himself, am I right?

Can I rephrase "I was very stirred by him" as she was worried and not sexually excited?

"stirred me deeply" as sexually excited, " very agitated" as too interested in that man or maybe something else?

And why she says "if he wanted me" and not "had wanted?"

I do apologize as my post is too long.

Thank you
