Synonyms

Hi there. Would you be so kind to tell me whether two pairs of word convey the same thing and can be used interchangeably?

Supremity - supremacy. (I found "supremity" only in Webster dictionary and it seems it is not used much nowadays).

Appearingly - apparently. ("Apparently" is more common, I guess, isn't it?)

Thank you so much in advance.

I understand "supremity" to mean the same as "supremacy", but the word feels a bit strange to me and it seems to be in hardly any dictionaries. I'm not sure if it's old-fashioned or just a less usual form. Either way, I wouldn't particularly recommend using it.

  • "appearingly" sounds wrong to me, though if I read it I'd understand it to mean the same as "apparently".
  • Again it's in Websters 1913 edition, but I think it's effectively obsolete.

Thank you, Mr.Wordy. I guess, I have an inclination to elicit such words maybe because of Agatha Christie where old fashioned words are in abundance.
