Synonym for 'sort'

Hi teachers,
Would 'class' be the same as 'sort' in the following sentences?
1. It wasn't the sort of place they usully came to.
2. What sort of person is he?

So firstly, what would you reply if I asked you these two questions:
"What sort of person is he?"
and
"What class of person is he?"

The obvious choices are "kind" and "type":

"It wasn't the kind/type of place they usually came to".
"What kind/type of person is he"?

"What class of person is he?" Doesn't this one asks about it too?

So 'class' is not the appropriate one in relation to the context.

"Class" relates specifically to social or economic status.

"Sort", "kind" and "type" are of a general nature, and pretty much synonymous.

Choose the one that fits the context best.
