Is it a good synonym 'descended of' in this context?

By the way, 'get off' has the same meaning as 'get up' when you refer to something that you have been standing, sitting or lying on, you move your body from it.

That doesn't sound completely correct to me. I think "Bob ascended the train" would be more accurate than "Bob ascended on the train." I think the best synonyms to use would be "to leave" (instead of "to get off"/"to descend from") and "to board" (instead of "to get on"). Does anyone else have any thoughts on "to ascend"?
