Is 'stooge' sometimes used in this sense?

Or has someone sold me a pup?

Yes, as far as I know, "stooge" is used that way.
It's confusing because some people use "stooge" to mean the victim of a con, not the accomplice.
Most often though, I think of a stooge as an underling, a flunkey or yes-man, regardless of whether a con game is involved.
