symptoms manifest themselves

How would you correctly word this please?

Why is it that the flu like symptoms such as fever manifest themselves at night and not during the day? You feel fine during the day and come night time, you have a fever.

Thanks

You would probably be understood as written. However, I would have said it thus: Why is it that flu-like symptoms, such as fever, manifest themselves at night and not during the day? You feel fine during the day, but come night time, you have a fever.
