Sylva?

There is a book titled Sylva Florifera (1823) written by Henry Phillips.

I guess this title is in Latin.

I wonder how this Sylva Florifera can be translated into English.

Hopefully anyone familiar with Latin will help me with this!

Thanks in advance.

This would be my translation:

Flowering Forest or Forest in Flower or Blooming Forest or Forest in Bloom.

Have you read the contents of the book you refer to?

You should not translate the title of this book into any language because it is a reference book and it describes a type of tree that is universally referred to as Sylva Florifera.

Sylva Florifera is the latin genus name of a particular type of evergreen found in the Alps.

You could never say 'In 1823, Henry Phillips,

Thanks JohnParis.

Actually this book covers so many trees.

The genus of an alpine tree you mentioned is Laburnum which is the first tree dealt with

in this book.

And Sylva Florifera is not a botanical name if I'm not mistaken.

You may read the book here:

You're correct.

But it remains a reference work and the title should not be translated. If it were, no search engine (or card catalogue) would pick it up. A recent edition of the work has extended the title to offer more detail and, possibly, include additional key words to assist in searches.
