how do i separate word into syllables?

Yes, i know both of them can be found in the dictionary.

I remeber teacher said something about CVC and sound them out. When i'm reading i don't have the time to look up all the word. When reading in front of the class i can not said "hold on while i look up the word in the dictionary". The teacher can spell the word for me but that just the fishing thing. What i want is to learn how to
