How to indentified that a particular word is of one syllable or two-syllable?

I tried through dictionary , but could not get clear idea.

Could anybody explain it?

Perhaps the least technical definition is the number of notes you would need to set the word to music. Let's take that sentence for an example: Per | haps | the | least | tech | ni | cal | de | fi | ni | tion | is | the | num | ber | of | notes | you | would | need | to | set | the | word | to | mu | sic. Twenty-seven notes are needed - so there are twenty-seven syllables.

  • Maybe by studying the example you can figure out what a syllable is even if you don't feel ready for the musical challenge!

Hello (Sir, CJ)

If I have to put ( ') for stress, like in the word "technical".

Where should I put.

You have to know how to say the word first. If you don't know how to say the word properly, it won't be easy to say where the stress is. You will have to look it up in a dictionary. Dictionaries normally show the stressed syllables.

technical has three syllables : tech / ni / cal.
The stress is on the first syllable, because we say the syllable tech with a litt

I heard that with most words of 3 or more syllables, the stress is on the third syllable from the end. Is that true?

While it is not universally true (kangaroo, comprehend, patrimony, unintended, relation, committee, forensic), I would certainly guess that it is true, as you say, in most cases. Nevertheless, even being true for more than 50% of cases is not sufficient to provide any reliable predictive value for the learner.

A syllable is a phonological unit of organisation containing one or more sounds. Usually (?) a syllable contains one vowel sound.

Dividing a word into syllables in writing with hyphens is a different matter. I don't know much about that.

Well the easiest way is to see where you can eith elongate of stop your sound while saying a particular word.

eg., <Particular> |Par| (you can elongate) |ti| (elongate) |cu|(elongate) |lar|

but you need to go with the flow of the word. you can't stop at "pa" (particular). you need to identify the checkpoints where you can rest.
