Switching between tenses

Have you asked him why he hasn't done his homework?
I have. Do you know what he told me? He told me it was none of my business.

Is it natural to switch from the present perfect to the past simple in this situation? I find it kind of odd to say "Do you know what he has told me? He has told me......".
