Swipe

Hi,

1)If I was dusting my room and I was very quick about it, could I say that I just ‘did a few swipes with the cloth’ or ‘swiped the cloth over the surface a couple of times’?

2)”It was about time I texted him.”

“It was about time to text him.”

Are both options possible?

Thank you.

1. Yes. I might use "made" or "took" instead of "did" in the first one, but "did" is OK if it fits.

2. Yes, but they mean different things. The first implies that you have been remiss in not having texted him before now. The second suggests that the time you arranged for texting him has almost arrived.

One should avoid using the word "swipe," as it's (American) slang for steal, and people might wonder if you're trying to imply something negative.
