swing/flip

Hello,
Instead of swing, can I use "flip" in this sentence: "His mood flips between elation and despair"?

Thanks a lot Emotion: smile

I wouldn't use "flips" in that context. "Swings" is a much better choice. You can also say "oscillates" or "fluctuates".

Yes, because it's common and natural in the context of moods, as can be seen here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mood_swing and here http:
