Swing& change

Hello,

I've got a question in learning. There is a sentence like this: Shifting ocean currents in the Pacific could trigger dramatic swings in the world's weather.

I wonder the meaning of the word 'swing'. Does it refer to change, and could it be replaced by change here and what's the difference between 'swing' and 'change'. Hope you can give me a hand. Thanks a lot!
