Swim : a period of time that you spend swimming:


Let's go for a swim.


This is a definition of swim and I do not understand the meaning and how the example is related to the definition? Could you help me out with this question? Thank you so much in advance.

Well, yes. Technically the definition isn't very accurate. A swim is not a period of time. A swim is an occasion of doing swimming that lasts for a period of time.

go for a swim; go for a hike; go for a walk

These are all based on the same concept.
