Swift

Hi.
What happens if I substitute 'swift' with 'rapid' or 'quick' or 'prompt' or 'fleet' in:
"President Fran?ois Hollande demanded a swift investigation"

?Thanks in advance

A fleet investigation might be something you do with an armada, as in ships. A prompt investigation implies it would begin in a timely fashion, but does not speak to its duration. A quick investigation means one of a short duration, but for some might imply that it is done hastily - that is, with little attention to details.

  • A rapid investigation is similar to quick.
  • In this respect, swift is superior to your suggestions as it implies an investigation which is conducted quickly but without undue haste.

Fleet can mean swift, but it would be an unusual choice of word here.
