sweet dream

Hi,

You wish that someone could dream a good dream in the night, and as far as I know the most common expression for that one is 'sweet dream'.

Last night, I said 'take a good dream' to someone. Is that a right expression too?

So I am just wondering if anyone could give me other common expressions.

Thanks in advance.

" Always in the plural. "take a good dream" - I'm sure whoever you said this to knew what you meant, but I'm afraid we only "have" dreams, not take them. Sleep well, or sleep tight.

  • " Always in the plural.
  • "take a good dream" - I'm sure whoever you said this to knew what you meant, but I'm afraid we only "have" dreams, not take them.
  • Sleep well, or sleep tight.
  • The second is very informal, often used from a parent to a child, for example (and it rhymes with "good night," which is nice).
  • The desk clerk at your hotel might venture to say "hope you sleep well" when you tell him you are jet-lagged and exhausted, but he will never tell you to sleep tight.

My try:

"Have a good dream" is commonly used. I have never heard of the version with "take". Emotion: smile

Thanks, Delmobile, and Doll.

I was thinking of saying 'take good care of yourself' then suddenly I changed my mind and said 'take a good dream'.

But I didn't really feel the 'take' was the right one.

Now, I have realised why, thanks to both of you!

Wherever you are 'hope you sleep well every night!'

Thanks, have a wonderful weekend!
