SWEET CHILD O' MINE

Hi all;

You sure know the Guns n' Roses song, "Sweet Child O' Mine"; which I guess goes for "Sweet Child Of Mine". What does it exactly means? Does it mean "My little child"? If so, can I use that form for all the personal pronouns? I mean, can I say:

This is car of mine (This is my car)?
That is table of them (That is their table)?

It sounds horrid to me, but maybe is it gramatically correct?

Thanks you all!!!

Literally "sweet child of mine", but as to its meaning the lyricist would best say; possibly sweet inner child (himself) "seen" is gazing upon his beloved. This car of mine runs well This table of theirs is pretty good This is a car of mine The difference between "my car" and "car of mine" is that "car of mine" emphasises the car rather than 'mine', which "my car" may or may not do. d

Hi

I can only think of affectionate usages where the person or object is closely related to you ...

- When am I going to hear from that son of mine?

- I'm short of cash, but I'm not going to sell that old car of mine

It means my sweet child, and it's used poetically as a term of address. sweet = dear; lovely.

In ordinary language an X of mine means one of my Xs.
