Swedes and the English
I mistook a dozen visiting northern England people for Swedes yesterday, relating to them 'Ten thousand Swedes running through the weeds, chased by one Norwegian' for their edification. How common would that misidentification be, assuming one hadn't heard them speak? Several of the men, especially, did look highly Scandinavian. When they started talking and joking I knew none of them were Swedes, of course, although Danes or Norwegians remain possibilities.
There are a large number of people descended from the Danes in this country, but the men don't have the haunted, creased and weathered look of a typical Scandinavian, only the blonde hair with some of them. Perhaps because they've become mixed with warmer blood for some
1000 years.
