sutleties are there in those slgiht expectations

Question :

I worked through the night.

I worked throughout the night.

What is the difference between through and throught in the above sentences?

Answer :

I agree with what has been written. Carrying it a step further, I think a reader's expectation after the "throughout" construction would be to hear something more about that night. Whereas the reader's expectation after the "through the night" construction is that the text would continue on about the next day -- no more details about the long night.

Of course none of that is predetermined or guaranteed, but I believe the subtleties are there in those slight expectations.

I know subleties means small differences, but I still can't understand the highlighted parts. Could you explain it?

Hi, There are subtle differences in meaning between the two expressions. Each expression gives the reader a different expectation of what will be said next. The subtle differences in meaning are related to these different expectations.
