suspect sentence (basic grammar)

Dear English teachers,

Please take a look at the following sentence (taken from an online English lesson in the Internet):

Nobody HAD COME to the meeting because Angela FORGOT to tell people about it. (Version 01)

It looks wrong to me...

I wonder if the following 'variant' is correct grammar?

"Nobody came to the meeting because Angela had forgotten to tell people about it" (Version 02)

Your comments (on both versions) would be appreciated.

Version #2 is the better choice, but actually, this is the best, since without further context past perfect is uncalled for: Nobody came to the meeting because Angela forgot to tell people about it.

Thank you, MM!
In fact, there was no extra info ("context") specified with that sentence...just a "bare" sentence in Russian (to be translated into English) PLUS the requirement for the learner to "correctly use PAST INDEFINITE together with PAST PERFECT".

Based on this additional information, can we say that Version 1 IS NOT correcty grammar

It seems like; Angelina's situation happened first. So basically first version is not correct.

Based on this additional information, can we say that Version 1 IS NOT correcty grammar?-- Unfortunately, we have no further information, so we cannot say that V1 is 'wrong'; it is just not supported by any context. These are both acceptable:

When I arrived, nobody HAD COME to the meeting because Angela FORGOT to tell people about it.
Nobody came to the meeting b

Mister Micawber, To me, It is clear that first of all Angelina had forgetten to tell people, not sure though. Am I mistaken?
Thanks.

Nugso;

Certainly the sequence of events was this:

1) Angelina forgot to tell people about the meeting.
2) Nobody came to the meeting.

But Mr. M is absolutely correct in his assessment of the sequence of tenses.
