Hello, If a town/army/etc surrenders, the people accept someone else's authority. They put themselves under someone's authority. If the people in this town, soldiers stop fighting or resisting, can we then say: "After two weeks of fighting, the town finally gave up."? Surrender is probably more often used in such contexts, but what about "give up"?
Thank you
