surfer dude

Does ‘surfer dude’ suggest anything else than 'a surfer'? I read this on a messageboard:

‘Keanu Reeves’ biggest drawback has always been his 'surfer dude' sort of accent, but he's toned that down over the years.’

Hi, The term 'surfer dude' focuses more on the life-style and appearance of the person than on the actual activity of surfing. Such a life-style, for example, is thought to involve marijuana, hedonism, a lack of stress and a rejection of many of society's conventions and pressures. Best wishes, Clive

It seems that the
"surfer dude accent"
it's recognizable.

Search Yahoo with:

and you will find several references to a Southern California accent, which may be it.

Thanks dudes.

It does seem to me that 'surfer dude accent' is some kind of California accent; but Reeves wasn't brought up in California, I wonder how he got it...Anyway.
