Surface structure?

Hi! everyone.
Could you explain to me what deep and surface structure of a sentence mean?
J.K. Rowling wrote the novel that I recommended.(surface structure)
I think the surface structure of a sentence is the form in which we generally hear and see the sentence in our daily life.(Am I correct to think that?)
And as for the deep structure I am confused.
Could help me understand the deep and surface structure of a sentence?
Thanks!

Hi, Deep structure and surface structure were proposed by Noam Chomsky in the 50s – highly abstract by the way. But as I understand it, the essence is that a sentence can have one deep structure but several surface structures. K.
