Suppose

Hi!

"Suppose we never fell in love" . In this sentence, please, in what verb tense is the verb suppose?

Thank you,

Ariel

Hi Ariel I would interpret that to be a supposition about the future (or about an unspecified time). The word "fell" refers to something that is only hypothetical. This would be similar to a type 2 conditional: - If I lost all of my teeth, I would have trouble talking.

Hi Yankee

So I may say "suppose" is in a conditional (future) tense, isn't it?

Thanks,

Ariel

The word "suppose" is basically used as an imperative in that sentence. It tells the listener to do something. It tells the listener to think about a theoretical situation. It tells the listener to make a supposition now.

The verb that is used in a conditional form is "fell".
