support

Hello,
Do these sentences make sense: "We spent a week soliciting/eliciting support for the campaign"? What other verbs can we use, even more colloquial ones? We can't say "trying to find support", can we?

I came across "They were able to elicit the support of the public." and that's why I thought it would be okay. And because I have mentioned it, "elicit" is more often used about reactions, isn't it? Macmillan also says "information".

I used "fraze.it" and I see that "attract support" is not uncommon. Is that true or that site is good for nothing?

That site is fine. The meaning is a bit different; it is less proactive than 'solicit'.

Hello again. If I wanted to attract support, I would do things that people might like. Attract them to the cause. Find and rally support are more or less the same to me. If I am trying to solicit support, I have to ask people for it, don't I? That's what the dictionary says anyway. Asking for support is a little pathetic. If I drum up support, there are at least a few people who are supporting me,

That is a pretty good take on some of those nuances, Gene.

Rally is much more aggressive.
Gene93Asking for support is a little pathetic.
That just sounds like a basic, neutral verb to me.
