Supplement Is Not A Modifer?

¦ Further adjectival functions

iii He died young. They served the coffee blindfolded. [ predicative adjunct]
iv Furious, he stormed out of the room. [ predicative adjunct]

Finally, the AdjPs in [10 iii—iv] function as predicative adjunct. Those in [10 iii] are integrated into clause structure and hence modifiers, while that in [iv] is detached and hence a supplement.

I thought the "furious" that is detached from the clause modifies the clause itself. Thus "supplement" functions as a modifier. Was I wrong?

Compare these two from a semantic analysis. Only the word order is different, but the comma plays a significant role. I won't attempt the linguistic labeling, though, as I have not read your textbook.
