Superlative adjective

Hello, suddenly these came into my mind, I posted them quickly so I would forget them.

1. Joan is beautiful.

2. Joan is more beautiful than me.

3. Joan is (the) most beautiful.

Is 'the' optional in the last sentence?

Thanks so much.
