How do I know if I need to use the super-comma in this sentence?

Does the meaning chance if i do use a comma after truth?

The mysterious nymph, which appeared to us within the darkest gloom, represents fearlessness, truth, and purity.

To me, there is no difference in meaning. If I am not mistaken, the first sentence is AmE, while the second is British English.

I am one of two editors of our group's newsletter. My fellow editor and leave out the commas before the "and" of a series but the publisher always puts them back in.
It is a matter of the style guide that the organization uses. They want to use the same style guide for all their publications.
Every issue we have this comma war.
