Sunday afternoon at the museum

I am translating a report and I am having troubles with these sentences (the underlined bits). I am not sure whether they are correct or how I can improve them. Can you please help me?

)Context: In the museum’s hall, an open area divided into different spaces and a number of tables to cater for children’s activities (board games, dough workshop…)

)Laura sees Maura, says ‘hello’ and hugs her. Maura looks at her friend but she does not respond with the same affections, she does not hug back.

)The babygirl (or simply girl? she is 5) sits on the chair. the staff member had already moved the chair from (under) the table to welcome her.

)She chooses one card out of her own choice (the girl is playing a memory game).

)Maura understands that Laura is trying to cheat her and cries ‘Hey !’ as if she wanted to tip off Laura but she does it smiling as well as a bit confused.

)They kept on playing, Laura takes the lead (she is able to collect 5 cards in few turns).

)Maura observes the movements of all players on the board. Occasionally points at one card to help one particular player and she looks at him to signal that she wants to help.

)However it was too late and Federica was already sitting in the corner and Maura was next to her on the other side of the corner. The staff member was sitting across from Federica.

)I can not say whether she did not want to make any effort or she did not feel like to get to know other children.
