Vocabulary

sumptuous smell

Delhi is an overwhelming experience. It is as if all of humanity has been squeezed into one city.

The streets groan under the weight of people. The air is filled with deafening noise and sumptuous smells.

What kind of smell is that? Good or bad?

Thanks.

Interesting.

Perhaps because of the "luxurious" meaning, or perhaps because it sounds like "scrumptuous," but either way, I don't find anything odd about it. I would expect a sumptuous smell to be rich, potent, and very good.

I wouldn't use it in relation to a smell either, but the author who did clearly meant that they were good and not unpleasant smells.
