Summary of an argumentative essay

In the introduction the author represents the contradictory nature of death penalty problem. He says that such notions as justice and human dignity should be taken into consideration while discussing this problem, because they are closely connected with the theme of capital punishment.

The author thinks that the notion of human dignity should be applied more for victims of murderers rater than for criminals. Then he proves his position from different perspectives. First of all, death penalty will decrease the number of murderers, so they will not have an opportunity to commit a crime again. Besides, other people who tend to commit a crime will be frightened. More over, death penalty can stop prisoners’ sufferings.

Here the author proves these ideas with a quotation from the Bible, which emphasize that murderers do not have a right to live. At the same time he underlines that it is difficult to find arguments against death penalty.

At the end of the essay the author makes a conclusion. If such notions as human dignity, justice and democracy are discussed in favor of victims, there can not be doubts about death penalty as a civilized method of punishment.
